Surgical Technology is an instructional program that prepares an individual to serve as a member of a surgical team.
The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Surgical Technology will be awarded to the successful graduate of the 24 month program and graduates of the 12 month program will be awarded the Certificate of Surgical Technology. Qualified graduates may apply to the Association of Surgical Technologies for the National Certifying Examination and become a Certified Surgical Technologist.
Requirements for Admission and Application Process/Information
Applicants shall be selected for an interview by the Surgical Technology Admission Committee based upon the applicants scores on the standardized test listed.
Admission priority will be given to:
a. district applicants
b. out-of-district applicants
c. out-of-state applicants
The application process for the Surgical Technology Program at East Central Community College begins in January of each year and ends in May. Application packets and additional information may be obtained in the Career-Technical Office from Mrs. Christi Gregory, Career-Technical Counselor or Mrs. Linda McKee, Career-Technical Secretary.
Application and transcript information for the Surgical Technology Program MUST be submitted to the Office of Career-Technical Education.
While trying to attain acceptance into the program, a student should be aware of the application deadlines and program requirements. The Liberal Arts curriculum should be followed with emphasis on Oral Communication, Biology, Microbiology, Anatomy & Physiology I & II, Humanities/Fine Arts electives, and Social/Behavioral Science electives.

The salary range is from approximately $12 to $22 per hour depending on location and job title.
