What is Gerontology Technology?

The purpose of the Gerontology degree program is to provide the community with well trained individuals who have an in-depth understanding of the aging process and its physical, mental, and psychosocial implications as well as the skills to apply this knowledge to a diverse elderly population through the process of referral, advocacy, and problem solving. This program is designed to meet the standards and requirements for careers in gerontology.

There are many challenging and rewarding opportunities for graduates of the Gerontology Associate Degree program. Employment in this field will stem from the population growth and the corresponding increased demand for services to the elderly.

Opportunities can be found working with seniors in community centers, social service agencies, home health care, adult day care, recreation and activity centers, extended care facilities, congregate and group homes, nutrition projects and retirement communities.

Positions for graduates include: Outreach Workers, Activity Personnel, Gerontology Assistants, Senior Specialists and Case Managers.
